The Kankakee County Courthouse was illuminated the color purple to recognize International Overdose Awareness Day and September as National Recovery Month. The color purple is a symbol of awareness of overdose and its effects and signifies the loss of someone cherished, or demonstrates support to those undergoing grief. It sends a message that every person’s life is valuable and that stigmatizing people who have substance misuse disorders needs to stop. The Courthouse Illumination Initiative celebrates and recognizes the many days of remembrance throughout the year and is provided by the Pledge for Life Partnership and the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office #EndOverdose #IOAD202 #NationalRecoveryMonth
